Located 360 km to the south-west from Ulaanbaatar, Kharakhorum is the ancient capital city of Mongolia. The Great Ruler Chinggis Khaan himself ordered it to be built in 1220 as the capital of the vast Mongol Empire and the construction was completed after his death by the second Great Khaan, Ugudei. The splendid city with a fountain in the shape of a colossal silver tree designed by the French sculptor Guillaum Bouchier was destroyed by the Chinese Ming army in 1410. Although ruined during the 1930’s communism purges, today the monastery has been restored and is regaining its former glory. This tour take you to beautiful waterfall a part of Gobi sand dunes
TRIP ITINERARY:
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to hotel. City tour including a visit to Gandan Monastery followed by a visit to the National History Museum . Traditional performance in the evening. (L,D)
Day 2: Khugnu Khan Mountain/ Bulgan province
Drive to Khugnu Khan , this area is beautiful combination of sand and steppe , mountain . Walking through the splendor gratin mountain to visit ruins of Uvgun Monastery. Authentic Mongolian cuisine served for dinner. Overnight in a ger camp. This day journey is 300km . (B,L,D)
Day 3: Kharakhorum/Uvur Khangai province
Departure for Kharakhorum. Explore magnificent Erdene Zuu monastery temples with grand examples of Buddhist iconography dating back to the 16th century. Visit archeological excavation sites of Kharakhorum ruins. Visit in Kharakhorum museum . Overnight in a ger camp. This day journey is 80km. (B,L,D)
Day 4: Waterfall Ulaantsutgalan / Uvur Khangai province
Drive to the 20, 000 years old Waterfall Ulaantsutgalan. The 24 meter high waterfall is impressive after the heavy rains but may be rather modest at other times. Ideal place for trekking and photo sessions. Overnight in a ger camp. This day journey is 150km. (B,L,D)
Day 5: Elsen Tasarkhai / Bulgan province
Drive to Bayangobi sands by a motor coach. Trekking and horseback riding in sand dunes. Visit a nomadic family for airag tasting (a traditional beverage made of fermented mare’s milk). Overnight in a ger camp. This day journey is 230km .(B,L,D)
Day 6: Ulaanbaatar
Drive to Ulaanbaatar. This day journey is 300 km. Arrive in the hotel ,Shopping and Free time. (B,L,D)
Day 7: Departure
After breakfast , check out and depart to airport .
